Other Academic Programs The Department of University Housing sponsors many programs and events designed to promote academic growth and excellence of its residents. Resident Assistants (RAs) and C.L.A.S.S. Advocates (CAs) are continually developing, sponsoring and delivering a wide variety of programs designed to support residents' academic needs and interests. Do you want to learn effective study technique, meet with industry professionals or learn about opportunities for study abroad? Your RAs and CAs are a great place to start! A few examples of specific programs sponsored by the Department of University Housing include: Brumby Buddies: This program exposes Brumby residents to staff and faculty role models while improving communication in a non-classroom environment through mutual participation in floor meetings, programs and planned events. This program is supported by a grant from the UGA Parents and Families Association. Please contact John Trawick for additional information on Brumby Buddies activities and events. Creswell SMARTEES: Sponsored by the staff of Creswell Hall and supported by a grant from the UGA Parents and Families Association, the Starting Meaningful Academic Relationships Enhances Every Student (SMARTEES) program improves resident success through increased faculty/staff interaction, recognition of academic achievement and identification of academic resources through a series of events, activities and a newsletter. Please contact Scott Oliver for more information on Creswell SMARTEES. Get Smart Week: Get Smart Week is an annual event that takes place during Fall semester. The Department of University Housing, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and The Division of Academic Enhancement work together to plan and execute academic events in Brumby, Creswell and Russell Halls. Past topics have included Interacting with Professors, How to Edit Your Own Paper, and Choosing a Major. For more information contact Tina Venus. Hill Community Study Money: Residents of Boggs, Church, Hill, Lipscomb and Mell Halls, as well as Oglethorpe House, are rewarded instantly for academic diligence by staff members who "catch" them in their books or working on other academically purposeful activities. Additional recognition is given to residents at the end of the Spring semester in the form or larger rewards and a silent auction. Please contact Eddy Cruz for more information about this program, which is sponsored by the Hill Community staff and the Hall Councils. Russell X: The UGA Parents and Families Association sponsors this program that focuses upon student assimilation into the University of Georgia's social and cultural environment through launch of the Student Success Series of career development, time management and study skill programs; the Out to Lunch community professional interface program; and the Russell Book Club. Tamara Burke can provide additional information on the Russell X series of programs. |
