Roommates & Room Changes

New Student Assignment

What if I know who I want to room with already? Will we be matched up?
Every effort is made to accommodate roommate preferences when all of the following conditions are met: a) Both applicants request each other, b) The Assignments Office receives both original registrations and completed housing contracts. c) A double room vacancy is available. Please note: Roommate preferences take priority over your hall preference in the assignments process!

How will you match me up with a roommate?
Extensive research has been conducted suggesting no fail-safe roommate matching system exists. The University shall not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, sex, religion, national origin, disability or veteran status.

When do I receive my room assignment and when do I find out who my roommate is?
Information on room and roommate assignments is sent in mid-July.

If I would like to change rooms or transfer to another hall, how may I request that?

1. If you receive a contract in May, you may fill out the Reassignment Request Form available online from University Housing. Reassignment requests are processed in the order of each student's original registration date, though you must have a signed contract with University Housing and have made all required payments within the deadlines set by the Bursar's Office for a reassignment request to be considered. Notification of reassignment will be e-mailed to you.

Please note that while every effort will be made to reassign you to another space, the Department of University Housing can in no way guarantee reassignment.

2. If you have a roommate preference, that person must also complete the Reassignment Request with the same preferences. Mutual roommate requests are assigned a higher priority than hall preferences.

3. Demand for East Campus Village, Myers Hall, Oglethorpe House, Reed Hall, and Soule Hall far exceeds availability of vacant spaces. Only individuals with very early registration dates are likely to be assigned to these residence halls.

4. After move-in, all room change requests or hall transfers will be completed through an online process that will begin on the first day of classes. More information concerning this process will be shared during check-in.

Room Changes/Hall Transfers

How do I transfer once the academic year has begun?
Students desiring a room and/or hall change after the first day of Fall classes may submit as many as three choices through University Housing's online system. Click here for additional information.
