UGA Housing Recycles

With more than 8,000 students and their families living in 40 residence halls and apartment buildings, UGA Housing's residents generate tons of waste each year. UGA Housing has teamed up with UGA Physical Plant, Athens-Clarke County's Solid Waste Department and UGA Housing's student residents to build a comprehensive recycling program that will divert as much of this waste material as possible away from the municipal landfill and into an award winning recycling system that is flexible and easy to use.

Look for the Recycling Dawg! While recycling bins have been stationed throughout our residential communities for some years, now residents only have to look for The Recycling Dawg to identify a bin dedicated to the responsible capture of recyclable materials. Click here for a list of recycling locations in each residential community.

Can't find a bin? Look for the Recycling Dawg on informational posters in every community that provide specific information on the location of collection points in that residential area.

Easier than ever! Recycling is easier than ever thanks to Athens-Clarke County's state of the art Materials Recycling Facility, which accepts deliveries of many types of materials that had to be sorted and separated in the past, or were not accepted at all. Now recyclable goods need only be sorted into two categories: paper products and containers:

Paper Products Containers
Cardboard & Paperboard Aluminum Cans
Office & Copy Paper Tin Cans
Newspaper Glass Bottles
Magazines Plastic Bottles (#1 & #2)
Telephone Books Aerosol Cans
Milk & Juice Cartons

Get involved! Residents of UGA Housing who wish to participate directly in the operation and improvement of the recycling program are invited to join the departmental Recycling Team, a collaboration between UGA Housing's professional staff and the student residents they serve. Meetings are held monthly. For more information on UGA Housing's recycling program please contact Joel Eizenstat at 706 542-7068 or via e-mail.
