Visiting Scholars

The Department of University Housing has a very limited number of apartments available for use by visiting scholars and other guests of the University of Georgia. These apartments are located inside UGA residence halls and are subject to all of the policies and guidelines observed by the students, staff and faculty within those residential communities. Guests must have an on-campus sponsor in order to qualify for this lodging.

Rates:

  • The monthly rent for these apartments is $600 per month, or $20 per day for stays shorter than one month.
  • Payment for guest apartments can be completed by cash, check, money order, credit card (Visa, Mastercard and Discover) or intra-University transfer. Guests or sponsors may pay for these apartments on a monthly basis or by lump sum at check-out.
  • Visiting scholars must agree to deliver a short presentation to the students with whom they share the community. These presentations can cover the guest's area of academic expertise/study, home country or home culture, and should be geared for a general audience.

How to Apply and Check In:

  1. Visitors wishing to participate in the Visiting Scholars program should download, complete and return this guest application.
  2. All applications must also be endorsed by the on-campus sponsor, who must agree to pay any rent or other charges not settled by the departing guest.
  3. UGA Housing will assess space and availability on the dates requested.
  4. If space is available a contract will be issued by UGA Housing. This contract must be endorsed by the guest and the on-campus sponsor. A sample copy of the Guest Accommodations contract can be found here. At this time guests will be put in touch with the specific Department of University Housing Area Coordinator who manages the hosting community.
  5. Unless other arrangements have been made, check in will take place at a designated residence hall on the scheduled date of arrival.

These spaces are very limited in number, so please act quickly to apply for a reservation!

Note: During the summer months (generally between graduation and summer commencement) a significant number of spaces are available for visitors, camps and conferences. For information about obtaining summer lodging please visit the Conference Services page of this site.
