Hill Community

The Hill Community is made up of six individual residence halls:

Boggs, Church, Hill, Lipscomb and Mell Halls
First occupied in 1961, the "Lower 5" residence halls are nearly identical four-story buildings that are each home to approximately 160 residents. The rooms in these five halls are traditional doubles, home to two students per room. In addition to built in furniture, high-speed Internet access and cable television, each room is equipped with a sink. Common bathrooms are located on every floor and are cleaned daily by our custodial staff. Beds may not be bunked in these buildings.

These residence halls are also equipped with laundry and kitchen facilities, vending machines, 24-hour security systems, and study lounges. A 24-hour service desk provides package pick-up, spare keys, and checkout for special equipment such as VCRs, video games, and movies. Resident Assistants are assigned to each floor and are on duty nightly to respond to resident concerns.

Located at the center of campus near the intersection of Baxter and Lumpkin Streets, all five of these residence halls are just a short walk from the Tate Student Center, Sanford Stadium, the University Bookstore, Clark Howell Hall and Legion Pool. Adjacent Legion Field has hosted some of the world's biggest musical acts, including Pearl Jam, Destiny's Child, The Dixie Chicks and R.E.M.

Oglethorpe House
Affectionately dubbed "O-House" by residents, this hall is a nine-story building arranged in suites composed of two bedrooms and a bathroom. A limited number of single rooms are also available. Each room comes furnished with two beds, two desks, two three-drawer pedestals, and one four-drawer dresser.

Oglethorpe House features full-service laundry facilities, vending machines, foosball, ping pong tables, a television lounge, and study rooms. Two elevators run from the basement to the ninth floors and a 24-hour front desk monitors access to the building. The hall is governed by the Oglethorpe House Hall Council, a student-run group that negotiates facility concerns and building regulations and plans social activities such as the Halloween Bash, Movie Night, and pool parties.

Getting to dinner is a snap for the residents of Oglethorpe House, as this residence hall is located next door to Oglethorpe Dining Commons. Residents also have access to the Oglethorpe House swimming pool, open from April through September. A bus stop at one end of the building provides service to the rest of campus.
