Position Descriptions
Assistant to Project Coordinator (summer position only)
These student workers will assist the Project Coordinator with the monitoring of Department of University Housing summer renovation and construction projects. These workers will:
- Make periodic on-site inspections of projects to ensure that projects are proceeding properly, and that project sites are safe and secure.
- Review specifications to ensure that applicable specifications are
being met.
- Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards.
- Review construction plans to ensure that construction is proceeding
as designed.
- Guarantee that appropriate safety practices are being followed at
construction sites.
- Ensure that project schedules and timelines are being met.
Other duties consistent with the purpose of this position may be assigned.
C.L.A.S.S. Advocate
C.L.A.S.S. (Continuing the Legacy of African American Student Success) Advocates live and work in the residence hall community and are members of the residence hall staff. CAs address the needs and concerns of African American students living in the residence halls and help African American students adjust to life on campus. Applicants must be mature and flexible, be able to communicate effectively, and understand African American student issues. Additional criteria include a minimum University of Georgia cumulative and semester GPA of 2.75 and have at least four full semesters of campus experience at UGA as a full time student. Residence hall living experience is preferred.
Conference Host (summer position only)
Conference Hosts work with a variety of summer conference groups. They work scheduled shifts at the community desk, serve as resources for guests, and live in their assigned community. The average workweek for a Conference Host is 30 hours. Conference Hosts 1) may not enroll in more than 7 credit hours for the summer 2) may enroll in only 1 short session course at a time
3) may hold an additional job, with supervisor approval, if they are not enrolled in a summer class. If Conference Hosts are enrolled in summer school classes, no additional jobs may be held other than the Conference Host position.
Desk Assistant
Desk Assistants manage the operations of the community desk and serve as the primary customer service representative. They monitor resident entry into the building, verify residency, check out keys, answer the phone, and record incidents in the logbook. Most community desks are open 24 hours, so night shifts may be required.
ECV Office Assistant
Office Assistants serve as a resource of information for students to help in their adjustment to the University and to the East Campus Village Community. These student staff members are responsible for assisting the Area Coordinator, Assistant Area Coordinators and Senior Secretary in administrative projects, distributing mail and packages for the community, running on-campus errands, monitoring security cameras, checking out DVDs, games and equipment, and staffing the 24-hour ECV Community Desk.
Lifeguard (summer position only)
Lifeguard positions are available in Hill Community. Lifeguards complete a training program that prepares them to aid in the pre-opening and closing, cleaning, and maintenance of the pool; guard the pool during assigned shifts; and enforce pool regulations. Candidates must provide current lifesaving certification, first aid, and CPR certification.
Mail Clerk
Mail Clerks distribute mail and packages for the community residents on a daily basis. They also forward mail when necessary. Mail Clerks work between two and four hours a day.
Office Assistant
Office Assistants serve as a resource of information for students to help in their adjustment to the University and the Community. These student staff members are responsible for assisting the Senior Secretary in administrative projects in addition to distributing mail and packages for the community.
Painter and Maintenance Assistant (summer position only)
Painters prepare walls, patch holes, and brush and roll paint in the residence halls. Maintenance Assistants perform simple maintenance tasks. A driver's license is preferred for Maintenance Assistants.
Pool Manager (summer position only)
The Pool Manager is responsible for the supervision and scheduling of the lifeguard staff as well as guarding the pool during assigned shifts. In addition, the Pool Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance of the pool. Candidates must provide current CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications. Experience as a lifeguard is preferred.
Resident Assistant
The Resident Assistant (RA) lives and works with a group of 30 to 60 students in a residence hall community. Duties include personal advising, management of a floor of undergraduate students, and administrative tasks such as community desk duty and room inventory. Applicants must be mature, flexible, and effective communicators. Additional criteria include a minimum University of Georgia cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 and have at least two full semesters of campus experience at UGA as a full time student. Residence hall living experience is preferred.
Village Community Assistant
A Village Community Assistant lives in East Campus Village and acts as a resource for all 1,200 community residents. Village Community Assistants support students in their development and adjustment to the University and the Community. These student staff members are responsible for assisting in crises management, maintaining safety and security of the community, responding to facility concerns, conducting courtesy checks of apartments for health and safety concerns, checking residents in and out of apartments, and staffing the 24-hour ECV Community Desk. Applicants must be mature, flexible, and effective communicators. Additional criteria include a minimum University of Georgia cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 and have at least two full semesters of campus experience at UGA as a full time student. Residence hall living experience is preferred.
Village Programming Assistant
Village Programming Assistants are responsible for all of the programmatic efforts for East Campus Village. A Village Programming Assistant will program using the transitional, passive, and social programming model to meet the needs of East Campus Village residents. In addition, the VPAs will be responsible for coordinating three community-wide blood drives a year. Applicants should have a minimum University of Georgia cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 and have at least two full semesters of campus experience at UGA as a full time student. Residency on-campus is preferred, but not required.
