IHE DOCTORAL PROGRAMS
ADMISSIONS AND APPLICATION INFORMATION

Criteria and Standards for Admission

  • Performance in and successful completion of a master's degree in a related field;
  • The Graduate Record Examination;
  • The applicant's statement of career goals and objectives;
  • Strength of the letters of recommendation (automatically forwarded from Graduate School application);
  • For the Ph.D.: significant exposure to research in higher education during a master's program and/or significant work experience in an institution or agency associated with higher learning;

Procedures
Applications for graduate education in the Institute of Higher Education are reviewed during the fall and winter each year for admission into the following fall term. Applicants are encouraged to apply by February 15 for full consideration in the fall term. After such date, applications will be considered on a space available basis. Applicants interested in an assistantship are encouraged to apply no later than December 15. Students are considered for an assistantship after being admitted to the program.

An applicant must apply to both the Graduate School and the Institute of Higher Education. Files will not be considered for admission until all documents required by both departments are received by the deadline set by the Institute of Higher Education. Letters of recommendation sent to the Graduate School will be automatically forwarded to IHE.
