2004-2005 EDUCATION POLICY SEMINARS

2004-2005 Policy Seminars are taking a break from the thematic tradition of years past by focusing on the scholars in the field. We have invited some of the most influential scholars in the field to join the seminar and share with us work that is driving their current thinking and interests. The latitude given to these distinguished scholars promises to yield the presentation of insightful and cutting-edge work on the important problems of our time.

Education Policy Seminars, Spring 2004
"Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act of 1965"

During spring semester 2004, IHE Education Policy Seminars focused on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. The HEA provides the legal basis for the federal government's major student aid programs and for other significant federal initiatives with impact on higher education. The HEA is not permanent and will expire on September 30, 2004. Thus, the 108th Congress must consider extending, or "reauthorizing," the HEA for the eighth time since initial passage of the law in 1965. Reauthorization has enormous consequences for American higher education. Some of the nation's leading experts on reauthorization issues participated in the spring seminars.
