Sonia Talathi is a senior broadcast journalism and pre-med major who wants to use the media to help developing countries. The Honors student and former CURO Apprentice has conducted research in Uganda and wants to set up a news network in Africa to deliver timely and accurate health information. Tulsi Patel
Senior Tulsi Patel is a pure scientist. She came to UGA as a freshman because of the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities program that allowed her to do scientific research as an undergraduate student. She has worked with some of UGA’s top scientists including Dr. Scott Gold in the department of plant pathology and Dr. Steve Stice in the department of animal and dairy science. Nithya Natrajan
Nithya Natrajan cares about people. The mid-term Foundation Fellow and CURO apprentice chose UGA for her undergraduate degrees because she was able to start doing research during her first semester. Studying under genetics faculty mentor Mary Bedell, she is examining how a growth factor, Kit ligand, is processed in mammalian cells using a mouse model. Jessica Van Parys
Jessica Nicole Van Parys feels fortunate for her experiences at UGA. She recently completed a study with Terry College of Business professors Chris Cornwell and David Mustard showing that the written portion of the redesigned SAT can be used to predict academic success in college better than other parts of the test. Steven Gay
After he graduates from UGA, Steven Gay is planning to go to medical school and become a doctor. But he isn’t waiting until he gets out of school to start helping people. He has already worked overseas as a medical volunteer in remote villages in South America. After his experience there, he came back to Athens and started a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping more people access needed healthcare around the world. David Paulk
Franklin College senior David Paulk has a zest for life. As an Honors student, he has participated in three study abroad opportunities including a medical internship in Venezuela, a Science Maymester in Italy and a research symposium in Costa Rica.
