Susan Bolen
Susan Bolen stays busy. She is a Ph.D. candidate in elementary education, an instructional coach at Timothy Road Elementary School and Fowler Drive Elementary School, the mother of two school-age children and a pastor’s spouse. Her career and research interests were born of her own experience as a third-grade classroom teacher. In her first assignment, she received an overload of children with behavioral and academic difficulties. There was minimal peer-support and no assistance from a mentor or administrator. Now, as…
Rachel Stokely
Rachel Stokely could have graduated early with all her Advanced Placement credits. Instead, in her sophomore year, she changed her studies from cellular biology to pursue the dual degree in mathematics education and mathematics (B.S.Ed./B.S.). As an Honors student she also got admitted into the M.Ed. program in mathematics education and will graduate with three degrees this spring. She is the undergraduate representative in the Mathematics Education Student Association, and she won a Hollingsworth scholarship in Mathematics in 2006. She…
Katherine Adams
Doctoral student Katherine Rose Adams does not let anything slow her down. She works full-time as the program coordinator in the School of Social Work’s M.S.W. program. She just finished her master’s degree in human resources and organizational development in UGA’s College of Education, and she is now starting her Ph.D. in adult education. As an undergraduate at UGA, she helped organize Relay for Life and Dance Marathon events to raise money for Children’s Health Care of Atlanta and for…
Drew Brannon
Drew Brannon helps athletes perform. A former student athlete, he’s not the kind of coach you’d find on the sidelines. A lot of his work is done before players hit the field…or track…or court. Brannon is a doctoral student in counseling psychology, and he works with UGA student athletes to help them maximize their potential. Working with the UGA Athletic Association, he has counseled student athletes through struggles ranging from anxiety and depression to sport-specific issues. His doctoral research is…
Hannah Lipps
Junior Hannah Lipps plans to make a life helping others. Among other activities, she has been involved with UGA HEROs, a student philanthropic organization dedicated to helping children affected by HIV/AIDS. She says that if she knew she would not fail, she would find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Today, she is already helping people overcome obstacles through physical movement as an instructor for UGA’s Challenge Course and as a life guard at the Ramsey Student Center. Lipps plans to…
