John David Pritchett
In the summer, vet student John David Pritchett returned to the Pantanal Region of Brazil to complete a study of vampire bats that he started last year. He collected specimens from the vampire bats that will be tested to determine the prevalence of rabies within this region of Brazil. Pritchett expects these tests to help veterinarians control the disease which can be transmitted to children through bat bites. The project’s goal is to decrease the prevalence of rabies in bats…
Fernando Torres-Vélez
Fernando J. Torres-Vélez came to the College of Veterinary Medicine in the summer of 2002 as an anatomic pathology resident after completing a fellowship in Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. Since his arrival to UGA, he has been actively involved in research, teaching, and the International Activities program. Justin Brown
Justin Brown’s contribution to veterinary medicine goes far beyond treating dogs and cats. He is currently working with avian influenza virus, and he is also investigating wildlife diseases to help prevent their transmission to humans and other animals. He graduated summa cum laude from UNC-Wilmington with a bachelor of science degree in biology. Caroline Salter
Caroline Salter doesn’t horse around. She is a UGA Charter Scholarship Award recipient, and member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Caroline works in UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine large animal hospital as part of the treatment crew. That means she checks on patients hourly, takes vitals, administers I.V.‘s and shots. Tiffany Reed has a passion for helping animals…and humans. Currently she is president of the Student Chapter of American Veterinary Medical Association, which functions as the student government association in the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine. Shannon Parfitt
Vet student Shannon Parfitt will go wherever it takes to get the best UGA education she can. As an undergraduate, she participated in the UGA at Oxford program, which allowed her to pursue her degree without being too far from her parents who lived in the United Kingdom at the time.
