Courtney Garmhaus
Whether studying for classes at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, volunteering with a civic or community organization, interning to gain experience in her chosen profession of public relations or working at one of her many jobs to pay for her education, Courtney Garmhaus gives 100 percent of herself 100 percent of the time.
Matt Chambers
We’re all aware of such phrases from the news media as “weapons of mass destruction”, “peace in the middle east” and “nuclear proliferation.” But Matt Chambers has dedicated his educational endeavors to understanding their current implications on today’s society and peaceful resolutions to international conflict in the future. Prior to reenrolling in UGA after an eight-year hiatus, Matt was an airman in the Air Force. Learn how Matt’s experiences at UGA have allowed him to be truly amazing.
Leilah Zahedi
Senior Leilah Zahedi’s life work will span international horizons. She plans to become a physician and would like to travel to Iran, her ancestral home, to advocate for women’s rights. As a freshman, Zahedi was invited to come to UGA as a CURO Promising Scholar. She began working with Dr. David Hurley in the College of Veterinary Medicine and has presented their research in numerous settings. Kate McGlamry
Senior Honors student Kate McGlamry cares about the world and the people in it. She has done environmental conservation work in Costa Rica, she has done research to help people with pancreatic cancer, and she has worked to help victims of sexual assault. The recipient of numerous scholarships, she loves to cheer for the UGA football and gymnastics teams. William Rooks
The experiences graduate student William Rooks has had on campus, in the nation’s capital and in China are preparing him for tomorrow’s increasingly connected and globalized world. His goal is to attend law school so that he can serve as an attorney advocating for human and civil rights.

Alyssa Larsen
When Alyssa Larsen received her bachelor’s degree, she realized the quality of a University of Georgia education was top-rate. Like many students, she graduated and got a job. She got married and moved to suburban Atlanta. When it was time for graduate school, she wanted to go to UGA, and the part-time master of social work degree program at UGA’s Gwinnett campus fit her needs perfectly.
