Caelin Cubenas
Since her freshman year, Caelin Cubenas has been expanding her love and understanding of science. Her first two years were through the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities apprentice program and then as a senior peer advisor. Katie Griffith
Honors student Katie Griffith has a passion for helping others. She received a Courts Scholarship last summer and traveled to Nicaragua to work in a high school on behalf of the Foundation for Sustainable Development. She also collected qualitative research data while she was there to conduct a linguistical analysis of Nicaraguan Spanish for her CURO Summer Research Fellowship. Monica Arboleda
Graduate student Monica Arboleda does not quit. She only had a bachelor’s degree and was competing with applicants who had completed their Ph.D.s when she interviewed to be a Houle Scholar in Latin America. Her background included research with women who had risen to leadership positions in their communities in Colombia through education and other means. She received the Houle scholarship, and when she reported on her work at a retreat the following year in Mexico, the committee was impressed.…
Caroline Salter
Caroline Salter doesn’t horse around. She is a UGA Charter Scholarship Award recipient, and member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Caroline works in UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine large animal hospital as part of the treatment crew. That means she checks on patients hourly, takes vitals, administers I.V.‘s and shots. Justin Brown
Justin Brown’s contribution to veterinary medicine goes far beyond treating dogs and cats. He is currently working with avian influenza virus, and he is also investigating wildlife diseases to help prevent their transmission to humans and other animals. He graduated summa cum laude from UNC-Wilmington with a bachelor of science degree in biology. Lisa Hoffman
Lisa Hoffman knows that she can make a difference in the world. She is a senior public relations major and Honors student from Mandeville, La. During a summer internship with the Louisiana Public Health Institute, Hoffman conceived and executed a plan to design and distribute 5-minute phone cards with hurricane preparedness and emergency information on them.
