Melinda Murray
Melinda Murray is on track to become an outstanding food scientist. For two years, she worked at the UGA campus in Griffin at the Center for Food Safety. It wasn’t long before she developed an independent research project focused on evaluating gaseous chlorine dioxide and other sanitizers for their efficacy in killing three foodborne pathogenic bacteria on fresh and fresh-cut produce. Desire Smith
Desiree Aranda Smith wants to start a revolution. Focused on the rights of minorities and women, Aranda Smith has founded the group Students for Latino/a Empowerment and helped organize a group to march for women’s reproductive rights in Washington, D.C. She has conducted research in Mexico through a National Science Foundation-funded program, and she also received a summer research fellowship from UGA’s Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities for a project titled “Projecting a Positive Educational Experience for Latino/as in Georgia.”…
Priya Chandan
Senior Priya Chandan has done many of the same kinds of activities as other Foundation Fellows. She was a member of AquaDawgs, UGA’s synchronized swimming team and helped translate Spanish for the Athens ’ Nurses Clinic. She completed lab research with David Puett in the biochemistry and molecular biology department as well as at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
