Workshops, Events and Family Activities
Family Days at the Georgia
Museum of Art
Families and children are invited to join us for a tour, gallery
activity, and refreshments. All Family Day programs are held
in the Ed and Phoebe Forio Studio Classroom.
State Botanical Garden
of Georgia
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia offers hands-on programs
for children and families year-round including the Rainforest
Festival and Insect-ival, a family fun-fest all about bugs.
Regular events include summer day camps, craft classes, and
outdoor adventures.
Animal Science in Action
Aspiring animal scientists have the unique opportunity to study animal agriculture as never before. Rising high school juniors and seniors are invited to participate in this two-day program where "hands-on" means getting "down and dirty." Nutrition, genetics, reproduction, biotechnology, and management of horses, beef and dairy cows, sheep, and swine are explored during this fun-filled camp.
Avian Adventures
The state of Georgia raises more poultry than any other state in the U.S. In fact, if Georgia were a country, it would be the 4th largest producer of poultry in the world. Three fun-filled days await high school juniors and senior students as they investigate Georgia's largest agricultural industry. This is an excellent, "hands-on" opportunity for students interested in veterinary medicine, biology or science.
Georgia Future Problem Solving Program
The Georgia Future Problem Solving Program is sponsored by
The Torrance Center for Creativity & Talent Development
in the College of Education at the University of Georgia.
The Future Problem Solving Program (FPSP) is designed to help
students enlarge, enrich, and make more accurate their images
of the future.
Georgia 4-H
Georgia 4-H is all about exploring, discovering, encouraging,
and challenging. As a program of the Cooperative Extension
Service in UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental
Sciences, 4-H is part of the national extension network.
Worms and more:
Animal Doc Com
It’s Animal Doc Com—a site for youngsters who
are curious about veterinarians and what they do and why.
It offers accurate information at a child’s level and
interests and background. The section on worms, for example,
begins with "how do dogs get worms?" and moves on
through "show me the worms" to "can I get worms
from my dog"? There’s a section on llamas and a
virtual tour of the veterinary college.
The site was developed by the large animal medicine department
at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
