These U.S. State Department-funded projects linked the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UGA with the Center for Environmental Management and Planning (National Academy of Sciences) in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, in an innovative program of teaching, lecturing, and information exchange in business administration, agricultural economics, marketing, educational administration, and environmental studies. The program provided outstanding students at the Center in Tbilisi an opportunity to gain expertise in agribusiness, environmental management, and food science via their participation in the US educational system. Technical knowledge gained from their academic exchange, especially in agribusiness, environmental management, and the science of processing and preserving fruits and vegetables, will help Georgian enterprises compete in the regional and world economy. In the long-term, alumni of this program, with strong language skills and academic credentials, should be well positioned to take an active role in rebuilding the Republic of Georgia's agricultural economy.
