Students Hosted from Universidad Veracruzana Agribusiness Master's Program
From June 8-13, 2008, IPSO hosted ten students and one professor from UV's Agribusiness Master's Program, midway through their degree program. IPSO organized a series of visits with companies involved in international trade located in Athens and Atlanta, as well as a number of lectures and presentations from UGA distinguished faculty.
Cross-Cultural Studies: Mexico 2008
The purpose of of this May 18-June 1, 2008 program is to help extension agents and specialists better understand the cultural basis for interaction with Georgia's Latino immigrants and to work more effectively with the Latino community. While there will be a special emphasis on the social and economic challenges in Mexico, the intention is to give participants a broad set of cultural experiences.
Latino Healthcare Seminars Fall 2007
Read about this fall 2007 seminar series, part of the Learn & Serve Hispanic Healthcare Pilot Program, a student-initiated project bringing information on healthcare to the Latino community in Pinewoods Estates North, from professionals associated with healthcare providers in Athens. Fall 2007 topics included "Safety in the Home," "Allergic Reactions," and "Dental Health."
TIES Phase II: Teachers Training Teachers: A Mexico-US Higher Education Partnership
Phase II of the TIES initiative, funded by USAID, will allow universities in the United States and Mexico to form educational partnerships for the purpose of creating and enhancing economic and social growth in Mexico, providing scholarships and exchange opportunities for Mexican graduate students to study development issues at American universities, as well as providing continuing education opportunities for teachers and educational administrators.
TIES Phase I: Universidad Veracruzana-University of Georgia: A Partnership for Rural Economic, Educational, and Human Capital Development
This project through the U.S. Agency for International DevelopmentTraining, Internship, Exchanges, and Scholarship Program (TIES), with Universidad Veracruzana, aims to provide agricultural diversification for small-scale, marginal coffee farmers in Veracruz, by encouraging the cultivation of alternative high-value, commercial crops.
UGA in Armenia Program May 13-June 3, 2007
This three week study abroad and cultural experience program exposes students to the rich cultural, religious and historical heritage of Armenia and geo-political and economic developments in post-Soviet transition economies. The group begins with an orientation at the UGA campus followed by 21 days in Armenia, and will be located in Armenia's capital, Yerevan, with daily field trips to various parts of the country, including visits to international, governmental and non-governmental organizations and domestic businesses.
Cross-Cultural Studies: Honduras 2007
This abroad program with Zamorano University in Honduras helps extension agents and specialists better understand the cultural basis for interacting with Georgia's Latino immigrants and learn ways to work more effectively with the Latino community, by exposing them to a broad set of cultural experiences in Central America.
Uganda and AGOA: A Focus on Value Added Textile Exports
This project will implement a program of training, technical assistance, and capacity building for Ugandan textile and apparel firms and entrepreneurs to expand their knowledge of the U.S. marketplace, build linkages with Southeastern U.S. textile firms, and ultimately initiate export sales to the U.S.
Teachers Training Teachers Program
Eight Russian teachers visited UGA in a training and exchange program from October 13 to November 1, 2005. Presentations were made by UGA faculty specializing in mathematics education, science education, teacher preparation and retention, and instructional technology. Teachers visited area classrooms to observe methods and meet with American teachers and administrators.
UGA Partners with Barrow County Schools for Cross-cultural Teacher Exchange
A teacher exchange partnership between UGA and the Mexican government prepares U.S. teachers to better address the unique educational needs of Latino students, and encourages long-lasting linkages between teachers in both countries. Two Barrow County high school teachers and a teacher from Monterrey, Mexico, were the first participants.
A Tour of Tico Culture: Culture, Science and Education in Costa Rica, 2005
In June 2005, a diverse group of educators attended a two-week cross-cultural seminar in this thriving Central American country. The goal of the seminar, "Culture, Science and Education in Costa Rica," was to help educators better understand and work more effectively with Georgia's growing Latino population.
U.S. Studies Program for Mexican Students from the Universidad Veracruzana
UGA will host students and faculty from Universidad Veracruzana for a U.S. studies program that includes research at the UGA Libraries, English as a foreign language classes, and lectures by UGA faculty on contemporary American culture, role of the media in the U.S., U.S. history, and U.S.-Mexico relations.
U.S.-Africa Trade: Finding Markets for East African Entrepreneurs
UGA and the East Africa-American Business Council have joined Kenyan Ministry of Trade and Industry in a multi-phase business development project for Kenyan business people, entrepreneurs, and trade officials focused on the African Growth and Opportunities Act.
Educators and Extension Agents Take a Tour of Tico Culture
Teachers, principals and agricultural extension agents traveled through Costa Rica for a June 2004 two-week cross-cultural seminar, to better understand and work more effectively with Georgia's growing Latino population.
A Cooperative Approach to Sustainable Development: A Partnership Between the University of Georgia and the University of the West Indies
The University of Georgia collaborates with the University of the West Indies in a program of research on the topic of sustainable development, focusing on conflicting resource management claims on the Nariva Swamp in Trinidad.
Georgia to Georgia I & II
A program of teaching, lecturing, and information exchange in business administration, agricultural economics, marketing, educational administration, and environmental studies linked the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with the Center for Environmental Management and Planning in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia.
A Teaching, Research, and Public Service Synergy for Social Development in the United States and Mexico
A higher education partnership between the Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico and the University of Georgia hopes to address some of the social and economic challenges facing both Veracruz, Mexico, and the state of Georgia.
Transcending Borders: The US and Mexico in the 21st Century
This multidisciplinary project focusses on a replicable and cost-effective program that will better prepare graduates of System schools to compete in the global workforce, provide opportunities for faculty development, contribute to the internationalization of System institutions, and assist communities to respond to the challenges of globalization.
