East Africa-America Business Council

The East Africa-America Business Council (EAABC), established in 1999, is a tax-exempt membership organization of corporations and individuals whose purpose is to promote and encourage economic activities that provide relief to disadvantaged people, by enhancing the economic and commercial relationship between the United States and the East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The Council believes that improved economic ties between these two regions will lead to access to greater markets and resources which will in turn help drive employment for all, including disadvantaged people. This can be accomplished by creating educational, cultural and commercial exchange opportunities between East African and American individuals and corporations, by educating prospective benefactors about the economic climate and cultural traditions of the two regions, and by using a network of business executives and government officials to promote the East African region.

The University of Georgia in partnership with the EAABC were awarded grants in 2004 and 2005 by the US State Department to increase partnerships between the US, Kenya and Uganda in the cotton and textile/apparel industries. The direct purpose of the grants are to increase the profile of East Africa textiles in the US and to identify strategic partnerships that result in transactions.
