Samaki is a Ugandan design label specializing in hand screen printed textiles and producing designer clothing, gift items and accessories. Samaki has featured clothing on various catwalks in East Africa.

Samaki hand screen printed patterns reflect positive aspects of African culture and nature, with each textile design having a unique name to describe its character and personality.

At Samaki, we believe that fashion should not be dictated but instead should be an extended expression and reflection of the wearer's personality. Our collection is therefore very diverse in both color range and types of fabric.

Company Profile

Director Herbert Musisi at the Samaki Quality Hill Shopping Centre store
The unique aspect of Samaki is that we design and hand screen print our own textiles here in Uganda. The patterns reflect positive aspects of African culture and nature. Each design has a unique name to describe its character and personality such as "hang loose," "eat from my plate," "kiss me quick," and "jungle fever."

The reasoning behind this is to infuse art and culture into the garment so the wearer relates on a personal level to particular design elements and their meaning—fashion with fusion. All our patterns are available in a wide color range on different base fabrics, from cotton (both dyed and natural) to linen, satin, silk, chiffon, and denim.

Inspiration for Designs
Some design elements come from aspects of African culture such as baskets, calabashes (gourds carved into bowls or utensils), and traditional symbols. Others are derived from the natural world around us and include animal skins, plants, and foliage. The use of both vibrant and pastel colors means we can satisfy a wide range of personal preferences.

In our screen printing studio
Our clothing range is available for all members of the family, with some coordinated mix and match sets for couples and families. The styles are both casual and formal and include a funky new upbeat range for teenagers, mostly in denim and natural cotton.

Studio and Retail Store
Samaki has a studio in Munyonyo where we have a trained team of specialists in both screen printing and tailoring. We also have a shop at the newly built Quality Hill Shopping Centre in Kabalagala. Samaki sells fabric and ready-to-wear collections and we create unique, single edition designer outfits for special occasions.
