Company Profile

TEXDA has created a niche market as a training institute with a difference. It offers quality training courses that enable women entrepreneurs to improve their businesses.
TEXDA boasts a well experienced design and production staff and although actual sales have so far been only in Uganda, our customers come from all over the world. At TEXDA, we have a deep understanding of fashion trends and client needs.

Our products are made from original Ugandan cotton with the occasional integration of Kenyan and other East African fibres. When this is coupled with the unique prints and surface designs available in various techniques, one finds an innovative range of items yet unmatched in the textile industry.

TEXDA also provides training services to micro and small-scale women entrepreneurs in the areas of handloom weaving; dyeing, printing, surface design, basic design, garment construction, new product development, sewing machine repair and business management skills. TEXDA provides these services with the objective of building capacities and capabilities of women entrepreneurs in the textile sub sector to manufacture innovative quality products for both local and export markets.

Our Workshop
TEXDA maintains a textile workshop in Kampala city in central Uganda, focusing on weaving and inspired by organic cotton grown and dyed in Uganda. Our bright shop is filled with a variety of beautifully designed fabrics of natural cotton we use to create our quality hand-woven pieces: kikoy scarves, shawls, cushion covers, bags, kitchen gloves, aprons, tablecloths and other accessories. We invite you to share in our passion for color, creativity and beautiful products.

Background
TEXDA is a Non Governmental Organization established in October 1999 through Phase I of the Uganda Integrated Program, a joint initiative between United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Government of Uganda. TEXDA was established as a training support organization to address inadequate skills, a major constraint in the textile industry.

Local textile products can play an important role in Uganda's economic growth. At TEXDA, textile production is taken seriously as a way to provide alternative employment and economic empowerment for many people. Our artisans design and produce textiles incorporating local resources to promote indigenous textile production.
