UGA à Paris
This study abroad program is jointly run through the Departments of Geography and International Affairs at The University of Georgia.  Spending six weeks in Paris, students will not only have the opportunity to gain credit towards their degrees but also to soak up aspects of Parisian and French culture.

Maymester in Croatia
The Croatia Maymester Study Abroad Program offers students the opportunity to earn six hours credit studying various aspects of Croatian culture and society while traveling through this beautiful and fascinating country. Courses are taught by UGA faculty and use active engagement approaches that will take students into different regions and allow them to interact with scholars from Croatian universities and research institutes, local government officials, leaders of non-governmental organizations, and citizens from different walks of life.

SPIA at Oxford
The School of Public & International Affairs introduced its study abroad program at the University of Oxford spring semester, 2003. SPIA at Oxford is an intensive program in political science and international affairs which concentrates on Anglo-American politics. Students study with leading Oxford professors in tutorials, the system of individualized instruction which is traditional at Oxford, and select UGA faculty also offer seminars. Participants live in the UGA at Oxford Residential Center, a three-story Victorian mansion.

Study Abroad in Kyoto, Japan
The objective of this program is to experience the unique cultures, politics and historical sites of Japan and the Korean Peninsula.  Through both classroom learning and extensive field study students will gain a “global literacy” that cannot be matched by more traditional study abroad programs. Within a single month, participants will have the chance to visit numerous World Heritage Sites around Kyoto, contemplate the significance of the atomic bomb site in Hiroshima, catch a Japanese baseball game, take a ferry across the Straits of Tsushima to Korea, and stay overnight at a Korean Buddhist temple. The capstone experience of the program is a day trip through the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and across the border to the North Korean city of Gaesong.  Throughout the program, the course reading and lectures will emphasize the principles of conflict resolution and empathy as tools for peace and social enrichment. 

Study Abroad in China
This program will provide an opportunity for students to learn first-hand about a society very different from our own, but in many ways very familiar. China is a dictatorship that does not tolerate political dissent. At the same time, it has allowed a market economy to develop in many parts of the country, it is attempting to develop a more modern legal system, and, based on its size and economic growth, it is now a regional military power and a major economic force in the world. Customers line up at McDonald’s and military police suppress protest. This remarkable society raises truly profound questions. Is modern life compatible with dictatorship? Is dictatorship an aid to a country’s development, a hindrance, or is it irrelevant? Can a society and very diverse population successfully absorb rapid social, economic and cultural change?

Maymester in Tanzania
The best classroom is the one without walls! We encourage motivated, adventurous students to join us in a fun and engaging experiential learning atmosphere on the ground in Africa. A range of academic topics are offered through our programs, topics which can only be covered traveling through a country as diverse as Tanzania. Expect to see and participate in activities you may never have the chance to experience again. Favorite learning environments of previous students include: local communities, Serengeti National Park, the coral reefs of Zanzibar and the climb up Mt. Kilamanjaro.

Conflict Resolution Study Abroad in Ecuador
The University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), Globis, and the Center for Mediation, Peace, and Resolution of Conflict - International (CEMPROC) are pleased to present the International Conflict Resolution Study Abroad Program. Join us for this exciting program nestled in the beautiful Andes Mountains of Quito, Ecuador. You will examine international conflict from both theoretical and practical perspectives, learning the root causes of conflict and potential tools for engaging in effective peacemaking. You will explore theories of war, violence, peace, environmental justice, ethnic strife, conflict over natural resources, sustainable development, ethics in peacemaking, and different approaches to conflict resolution. Building on this theoretical base, you will be exposed to techniques, tools, and paradigms for addressing, resolving, and transforming conflict through negotiation, mediation, and sustained dialogue.
