About ISL - History & Mission

As part of the University’s commitment to internationalize the UGA campus and student body, the International Student Life (ISL) Office was created in 1997 by the Division of Student Affairs.  ISL is one unit with the Department of Intercultural Affairs at UGA, and our mission statement is:

The ISL Office supports UGA’s mission to provide an environment that appreciates our interdependent global society.  It will do so by creating a welcoming space that provides opportunities for the interaction of students from the USA and other nations.  Working together with students, ISL staff will provide services for, awareness of, and education about the worldwide social and cultural issues facing UGA students.

The ISL mission is unique to the University of Georgia and incorporates the international priorities of the institution’s administration as well as the University’s strategic plan.  It also supports the philosophy and mission of the Department of Intercultural Affairs as well as the Division of Student Affairs at UGA.
