2007 UGA Women's History Month Keynote Speaker: Chief Wilma Mankiller

Chief Wilma Mankiller will deliver the 2007 Women's History
Month Keynote Address on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 7:30pm in room 101 of the Student Learning Center.
The Institute for Women’s Studies is pleased to announce
that Chief Wilma Mankiller will deliver the 2007 Women’s History
Month keynote address in room 101 of the Student Learning Center on Tuesday,
March 6 at 7:30 p.m. As the first woman Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Mankiller has been a powerful force for civil rights and women's issues for over 30 years. As Chief, Mankiller led a nation of over 100,000 people and managed a budget of $100 million and continuously fought to improve the social, political and financial lives of Cherokee citizens.
Among her many honors, Chief Mankiller was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, been inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame and has 18 honorary doctorates from Universities including Yale and Smith College. Mankiller has chronicled her life in Mankiller: A Chief and Her People and is co-editor of A Reader's Companion to the History of Women in the US. Her latest book is Everyday is a Good Day: Reflections of Contemporary Indigenous Women.
At the Keynote Address, Chief Mankiller will speak on "Women's Leadership in the 21st Century." Along with the Institute for Women's Studies, the Women's History Month Keynote Address is sponsored by: University Union Ideas & Issues, the Institute for Native American Studies, the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, Intercultural Affairs, the Graduate School, the College of Education, the Department of Sociology and the Women's Studies Student Organization.
Women's Studies is honored to have Chief Wilma Mankiller as our 2007
Women's History Month Keynote Speaker. This year's lecture will
be March 6, at 7:30pm in room 101 of the Student Learning Center on the
