Welcome to the Spring 2008 edition SWIPnews online, your source for up to date news items, recent books, conferences, calls for papers, and job ads of interest to feminist philosophers and theorists.

Just as SWIPnews was about to go to press, we learned of the death of our beloved friend and colleague, renowned ecofeminist philosopher Val Plumwood. An outstanding theorist, an amazing activist, a singular life, Val showed us what an energetic and passionate approach to the world, and especially its more-than-human realms, can be. May all earthly beings praise her name!

This year marks the centennial of Simone de Beavoir’s birth. Click here for information about the many events planned in her honor.

There are many interesting conferences on the horizon, including “Making Philosophy of Science More Socially Relevant,” “Transnational Feminisms,” “Latina Feminism,” “Transsomatechnics,” and “Science Fiction, Philosophy, and Human Nature.” Click here to find more information about keynote speakers, travel accommodations, and registration.

The 18th Annual Pacific Southwest Women’s Studies Association Conference on “Feminist Reclamations / Queer Reclamations: The Adaptive Faces of Revolution” has extended their call for papers deadline to March 10, 2008.
