Jazz Ensemble

MUSI 4780/6780

T/Th 12:30-1:45, Leebern Band Hall

By audition: sight-reading (with an emphasis on style and feel) and improvisation.

Auditions for Big Band will begin the first Tuesday and Thursday of the semester at 12:30 in Leebern Band Hall following a short informational meeting.

Jazz Combos

MUSI 5106/7106

T/Th, 2:00-3:15, rooms TBA

The groups can range in size from duos to septets and perform works in a variety of jazz idioms and styles. Required text: The Real Book, Volume 1, Hal Leonard Publications.

Auditions for Jazz Combos begin the first Tuesday and Thursday of the semester at 12:30 in Leebern Band Hall following a short informational meeting.

Jazz Improvisation: Level I

MUSI 4784/6784 : T/Th, 11:00-12:15, room TBA

Instruction will take the player from beginning level. The prerequisite is that you must know your major scales and key signatures. The required text for entry level is Vol. 1 of Jamey Aebersold’s play-a-long series, available from Chick Piano Company on Clayton Street, downtown Athens.

Jazz Improvisation: Level II

MUSI 4786/6786: T/Th, 11:00-12:15, room TBA

Continuation of study in improvisation. Instruction will take the player to the intermediate level and beyond. Prerequisite is MUSI 4784/6784 or by permission. Required texts: Vol. 1 of Jamey Aebersold’s play-a-long series, and The Real Book, Vol.1, Hal Leonard Publications, available from from Chick Piano Comapny, Clayton Street, downtown Athens.

Jazz Applied Improvisation

MUSI 4788/6788: T/Th, 9:30-10:30, rooms TBA

Private studio instruction in advanced jazz improvisation and topics. Registration by permission of Jazz Studies faculty.
