The Journal For Undergraduate Research Opportunities
UGA's Online Undergraduate Research Journal for the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
The Journal for Undergraduate Research Opportunities is an undergraduate research
journal dedicated to promoting research as a part of the undergraduate experience
by providing undergraduates an opportunity to publish their work. The staff of
the journal is primarily composed of undergraduates, and all work published is
the product of undergraduate research.
The Journal for Undergraduate research opportunities at the University
of Georgia is one of the nation’s
only undergraduate research journals for the arts and the humanities. JURO@GA
has been recognized nationally for providing an outlet for underrepresented
areas of undergraduate research. Like many of the journals discussed, JURO@GA
was founded as part of a greater undergraduate research program at the University
of Georgia and primarily publishes
scholarship of UGA students who participate in UGA’s state-wide undergraduate
research symposium. A few works from students at other universities have been
published, included works from Emory and Agnes Scott, but the journal currently
primarily serves the UGA community. JURO@GA has been listed by many organizations,
including the Council on Undergraduate Research, as a space of notable undergraduate
scholarship.
JURO@GA was founded in 2001 as part of the Center
for Undergraduate Research Opportunities at the University
of Georgia. Seeking to build a place
for less represented undergraduate research, JURO@GA established itself as one
of the nation’s premier undergraduate research journals for the arts and the
humanities. Using the web as its medium, JURO has included in its four previous
issues extensive multimedia elements, including streaming audio and video. The
undergraduate JURO staff is under the direction of Dr. Pamela Kleiber, an associate
director of the UGA Honors
Program
JURO@GA is an integral part of the undergraduate research community at UGA.
Currently it publishes the best works from the CURO
symposium. JURO@GA often serves as stepping stone for further research publication
and scholarship. Today many of the authors are pursuing further scholarship
in America’s
best PhD programs. JURO@GA continues to challenge the conventional boundaries
of a research journal. It is currently expanding its horizons to include mixed
media, drama and dance. Its staff is composed of undergraduate students from
a variety of disciplines who are actively involved in many extra and co-curricular
activities. After graduation, many former staff members have gone on to graduate
school at leading universities.
