NEW UPDATE  * Oct_6th_2001

1).  ROAD CLOSED: The road from Madison Junction up North to Norris is closed  at this time for repair in both directions.  Using the road from Norris to Old Faithful via Madison Junction would be the shortest drive coming from Bozeman (and naturally going back to Bozeman) on the Interstate 90 to  Livingston then going south on the State Road 89 and enter the Park through the North entrance of  Mammoth (via the city of Gardiner). Using the road around Yellowstone Lake is to far  and takes a lot of time especially you are only allowed to drive 30 miles/h in the Park.
Thus, it is best to enter (and on Sunday morning to leave) the park via the West Entrance coming from West Yellowstone. You reach West Yellowstone on the 85 / 191 coming from Belgrade (West from Bozeman on the Interstate 90).   Coming from the airport you take a right towards Belgrad when hitting the Frontage Road (see map Direction to Motel). So you do not go through Bozeman.  This route takes about 2 h and 45 minutes (or more at less than optimal driving conditions). Thus we need to try to leave latest at 2:00 PM with the van and the second car may leave then at 2:15 or so.

Sunday morning  Departure:
(note:  this has been change due to early flight departures and extended time for security checks and  the 24 h - closed Road between Madison Junction and Norris)

7:00 -- Breakfast at the Snow Lodge and checking out of the rooms:

8:00 - 8:40 AM -- Final presentation of write ups and agreeing on a time table for submitting final versions to identified PI(s) so they can then at the appropriate time assemble, distribute for comments and improvements, edit, modify, and submit the final grant applications.

8:40 - 8:50  AM -- Concluding remarks

8:50 - 8:55 --  pick up your  BOX LUNCH (at the Snow Lodge Meeting room)

8:50 - 9:10 AM -- checking out of OF - INN (if not already done in the morning) and
                        getting ready to leave

First Van will leave at 9:10 (latest) to Bozeman Airport, 2nd  car will leave as decided at the meeting.  The  car with the Russian participants will tour the Park and will leave the Park via Mammoth Terrace returning  early Sunday evening to Bozeman.  The first van needs to be back in Bozeman before 12:00 so that the rental car can be returned and the participants can check in for the 1:05 PM flight.

3)If  you  have to leave earlier or need to come later, PLEASE  take care of your transportation to the Park yourself by renting a car at the airport.
If  your airplane arrives  late due to  delays and the group with the van has already left, please, rent a car (Alamo offered us the best deal)  and drive  to Yellowstone. You should be able to get a weekend rate after  Thursday 2:00PM. It's about a 2.5 - 3 h drive from the airport to Old Faithful Inn;  in the Park you only can drive maximally 30 mph.  The distance from from Bozeman to the Park entrance is about 90 miles

4)   ENTRANCE Fee:  when you enter the Park  you have to pay the National Park entrance fee. You pay for the car regardless of how many people are in the car. Rember you enter as a private person.  You will receive a map and information for the Park.
