Four girls in the early 1900's had interest in organizing a KD chapter at UGA. They strong desire led them to asking National Chapterian Gladys Pugh to visit and after the visit, the group formed a local sorority, Delta Kappa. Delta Kappa was installed at UGA as the Sigma Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta on March 22, 1924 as the fourth NPC sorority on campus. The Theta Chi's present house on Milledge was KD's first official home at UGA. For a long period of time, Sigma Phi's house was a beautiful mansion on Prince Avenue until the fall of 1971, when the apartment complex was bought on Milledge. At the 1971 Kappa Delta National Convention, Sigma Phi received the Merit award and the highest honor in Kappa Delta, the Council award. Since its early success Sigma Phi has received numerous awards. It has seen over 2600 girls initiated and has enjoyed a reputation of being one of the largest and most respected chapters on campus!
