Student Opportunities • The University of Oregon in partnership with Interamerican University Studies Institute (IUSI) announces a new 10-week spring Intensive Spanish program for 2009 to be held in Queretaro, Mexico. The Spring Intensive Program from March 29-June 5, 2009 is open to students who have completed part or all of First Year college Spanish, and enables them to finish all of their lower division Spanish language work by the end of the term. All participants will be enrolled in two language classes that emphasize the acquisition of cultural understanding through the reading of literature and texts that are Mexico-specific, and by theincorporation of activities outside the classroom in the language laboratory - Mexico itself. The goal of the curriculum is to give students communicative competence. These two courses represent the equivalent of a full year of college Spanish. Students entering the program having finished all of First Year Spanish will complete Second Year Spanish and take a course in Mexican Civilization. The program is held at the Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro and all classes are taught in Spanish by experienced Mexican faculty. Students are placed individually in carefully screened and selected Mexican home-stays. This program is accredited by the University of Oregon. Participants earn 16 University of Oregon "term" system credits. The estimated program cost is $5,340.00 which includes tuition, full room and board, transportation and lodging on academic field trips, medical health insurance and UO accreditation. This fee does not include round-trip airfare to Mexico, reference books or personal expenses. Additional options include: 5,6 and 12-week summer sessions and 16-week semester programs. |
