Undergraduate Advising
Undergraduate Microbiology majors
are advised in the Microbiology Department once they have completed
60 hours of coursework. Prior to that, students are advised in Franklin
College of Arts and Sciences by professional advisors.
There is no formal application process to become a Microbiology
major. Students who wish to declare Microbiology as their
major only need to go to 114 Memorial Hall to complete the necessary
paperwork. Students who do not have 60 hours of course work
but would like to meet with an advisor in the department to discuss
courses or career preparation should contact

Advising for new majors is currently
done by two members of the Microbiology faculty. Students
whose last name begins with A-L will be assigned to Dr. Tim Hoover.
M-Z will be advised by Dr. Wendy Dustman. Students who have
previously been advised by a MIBO faculty advisor (Dr. Hoover
or Dr. Dustman) may be advised and cleared by Mrs. Monica Matheson,
the Undergraduate Degree Specialist.
Advising appointments can generally
be made after the 4th week of the semester. Mrs. Matheson
will contact you via e-mail letting you know when advising begins
and the procedure for making appointments. Please be patient
and wait to hear from her. If you have not previously been
getting departmental e-mail, contact her so your e-mail address
will be included in the undergraduate Microbiology listserv.
