ARVIN SCOTT, percussion

Dr. Arvin Scott, performer, composer, author, educator, and community leader has entertained, taught and inspired fans and students throughout the USA and abroad for more than two decades. He was an in-demand performer in Boston and drumset instructor at the Berklee College of Music before going to the University of Georgia School of Music where he now teaches African, Caribbean, and Brazilian hand drumming, and all-around drum set styles. He has also developed a percussion methods class for music therapy applications.

His performance,teaching, and research travels include Brazil, the Caribbean, and Europe. He has also toured extensively with Blue Note Recording Artist and Grammy Award nominee Mose Allison. Arvin has been a regular collaborator with choreographer Bala Sarasvati and the CORE Concert Dance Company, serving as composer, performer, and musical director for post modern and experimental works such as Shakti, which premiered in the 1996 Olympics in Athens Georgia.

He is also a dedicated community leader. In 1996 he founded the "Drumming for Success" Youth Program, a community-based program which rewards academic achievement and provides incentive for youth to achieve goals for success in life.
