Michael Eckerty Michael Eckerty is currently working towards a DMA in bassoon performance at the University of Georgia as a student of Dr. William Davis. Prior to coming to Athens, he earned master’s degrees in both bassoon and conducting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he studied with Marita Abner and Sarah McKoin. While at UMKC, Michael won the concerto competition and performed with the Conservatory Orchestra. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University. Michael is currently principal bassoon in the UGA Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Augusta Symphony, Kansas City Ballet Orchestra, and many other orchestras in Texas, Missouri, and Kansas. In addition to his studies, Michael taught public school music for six years in Texas and Kansas. While in Kansas he served as the Director of Bands at Mill Valley High School in Shawnee and was assistant conductor for the Kansas City Wind Symphony. |
