
Dr. Dwight Manning has appeared as oboe recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and Holland. He has performed at several conferences of the International Double Reed Society and has presented premier performances of new works and first editions of historical works. He has recorded with the Georgia Woodwind Quintet and the University of Georgia Woodwind Quartet for ACA Digital and can also be heard on the Atlantic, Capricorn, and Musician's Showcase labels. In Brazil, he toured and recorded with Trio de Madeiras de Porto Alegre. Manning is a founding member of the Artrazann Trio (oboe, horn, and piano) and Camerata Georgiana, a period-instrument Baroque ensemble. He has performed at the Aspen Music Festival and with the El Paso, Fort Worth, Shreveport, Augusta, and Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestras.
Manning's primary oboe studies were with Richard Henderson, Richard Killmer, and Charles Veazey. He holds degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso (cum laude), the University of Oklahoma, and the University of North Texas College of Music (DMA, 1994). As a music educator, he has been a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas; a middle school Band Director in Garland, Texas; an Instructor of Flute and Double Reeds at Berry College in Georgia; and is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia where he teaches oboe, music literature, chamber music, and woodwind pedagogy. Manning has taught oboe master classes at many schools in North and South America
Twice awarded the University of Georgia Moss Fellowship to research unpublished oboe literature in Europe, Manning has presented premiers and first editions of J. F. Fasch's Oboe Concerto in G Major and Echo Sonata by A. Lotti. He presented his edition of F.W. Ferling's Concerto for Two Oboes, Op. 14 at the 2001 IDRS Conference. Dr. Manning's research has been published in six professional journals and included as a bibliographic reference in the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 2nd edition.
