MyDrive Acceptable Use Policies

May 31, 2004

MyDrive provides an Internet-accessible file storage repository for UGA students, faculty, and staff. Users can access their personally owned files on MyDrive through MyUGA (my.uga.edu) and non-Web desktop clients.

Acceptable Use

MyDrive is intended for use only by those directly affiliated with the University of Georgia. Its purpose is to provide a repository for educational, learning, and professional materials which are solely and legally owned by the individual storing the information. Proof of ownership is required for copyrighted material stored on MyDrive.

The storing or sharing of information that violates any copyright or other laws is prohibited. All use must be compliant with the University of Georgia Policies on Use of Computers (http://www.infosec.uga.edu/policies/compsec.html). In addition, use of MyDrive must be consistent with the information contained in the Regents Guide to Understanding Copyright and Educational Fair Use ( http://www.usg.edu/admin/legal/copyright/).

Nature of Space

  • MyID Requirement — Authorization with the UGA MyID (myid.uga.edu) is required to access MyDrive. Use is granted to current students, faculty, and staff with a valid MyID.

  • Storage Allocation — Each user is granted 40 megabytes of storage.

  • Individual (not Departmental) Storage — The service is for individual use and should not be considered a departmental (or other unit) storage repository.

  • Backup Policy — System-wide backups are maintained for disaster recovery purposes. Each user of MyDrive is expected to keep current backups of his/her files on personally owned electronic or print media.

  • Virus Protection — The files contained on MyDrive are not scanned for viruses. Virus protection is the responsibility of the owner of the files.
