ATHENS, Ga. — The annual Public Service and Outreach Conference will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Titled "Seeing and Serving the New Faces of Georgia," the conference is intended to sharpen UGA faculty's focus on changes in the state in order to better serve its people.
Alf Nucifora, a marketing consultant and nationally syndicated columnist, will present the keynote address. His syndicated column, "Shoestring Marketing," appears weekly in more than 60 business publications around the U.S. A native of Brisbane, Australia, Nucifora entered the corporate world working for two Fortune 500 companies, first in Australia and then in the United States. In his address, titled "Getting Inside the Minds of the New Faces of Georgia," Nucifora will paint a portrait of Georgia as it is becoming-distinct from the Georgia that marketers have mistakenly assumed it to be.
The general session, "Who are we? Where are We? What do we think?" will present the results of the Peach State Poll and will be led by Rich Clark of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Concurrent sessions will facilitate new understanding within the context of the implications of the "new faces of Georgia."
University System of Georgia Chancellor Thomas C. Meredith has been invited to speak at the conference luncheon on "Focusing Higher Education and Service in the New Context of Georgia." The Chancellor will draw upon his extensive experience in higher education, economic development, and as a new Georgian. The 2003 Walter Barnard Hill Awards will also be presented at the luncheon.
The Public Service and Outreach Annual Conference is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. The registration fee for the conference is $30. To register, or for more information, contact Al Henderson at (706) 542-2237 or Al.Henderson@gactr.uga.edu.
