Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forest Resources is pleased to announce that its professional forestry curriculum leading to the bachelor of science in forest resources has been reaccredited by the Society of American Foresters through the year 2015.
WSFR Dean Richard Porterfield, who previously has served a two-year term as chair of the Society of American Foresters Committee on Accreditation, says that full ten-year reaccreditation without qualification or request for further progress reports is an unusual achievement and great accomplishment.
“I congratulate the School, and especially the faculty, regarding the reaccreditation of the forestry degree program by SAF,” Porterfield said. “This is a significant accomplishment, and one for which we can all be rightly proud.”
WSFR’s forestry curriculum was initially accredited by SAF in 1938. The program previously received full reaccreditation in 1991.
The Warnell School of Forest Resources at the University of Georgia, presently celebrating its Centennial Anniversary, provides four degree path programs in forestry and natural resource science and management. These include the forestry, wildlife, fisheries, and water and soil resources programs. With more than fifty faculty and 23,000 acres of teaching lands, WSFR is the oldest, and one of the most respected, forestry and natural resource education providers in the southeastern United States. The school also houses one of the largest study abroad programs in the nation to provide global learning opportunities for its students.
