Athens, Ga.
– The University of Georgia
Police Chief announced today that he has received the toxicology report in the
death of UGA student Lewis Fish on Jan. 22.
“A report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Forensic
Crime Lab showed the cause of death to be a toxic mix of alcohol and drugs,”
Jimmy Williamson said. “The two drugs
were cocaine and heroin.”
Williamson said that Athens-Clarke County Coroner Bobby
Tribble confirmed the cause of death. He
thanked the coroner and the GBI for expediting their investigations.
Williamson also announced that police have warrants for
seven individuals. He said that 23
charges have been filed, including one felony and 23 misdemeanors. Individuals charged will be asked to turn
themselves in, Williamson said.
Fish, a 19-year-old resident of Russell Hall, was pronounced
dead on the scene in his room in Russell Hallby the Athens-Clarke County
Coroner at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 22,
according to Williamson. University
Police officers had responded to a call of a sick person at that location at
approximately 8:36 a.m. Emergency
Medical Services also responded.
