Athens, Ga. – Two veteran University of Georgia administrators will work together to oversee newly initiated academic programs at UGA’s campus in Griffin. Bob Boehmer, associate provost for institutional effectiveness, has overall responsibility for UGA’s off-campus academic programs in both Griffin and Gwinnett. He is a member of the senior administrative team that reports directly to Provost Arnett C. Mace Jr. Boehmer came to the provost’s office in January 2002 from UGA’s Terry College of Business. His responsibilities include overseeing institutional accreditation, assessment, research and strategic planning, in addition to UGA’s programs in Griffin and Gwinnett. Gerald F. Arkin, who has served as assistant dean of the Griffin campus with UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences since 1987, assumed additional responsibilities as assistant provost of the Griffin campus, effective July 1. This appointment enables him to help facilitate the university’s commitment to implementing new degree program offerings in Griffin. In his new role, he will report to Boehmer, as well as to Scott Angle, CAES dean. “I appreciate Dr. Arkin’s willingness to take on additional responsibilities in relation to our growing academic programs in Griffin,” said Boehmer. “As these programs expand beyond the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences to encompass other academic units at UGA, we want to continue to rely on his expertise and connections with the local community.” As of fall 2006, UGA is offering junior and senior-level courses for selected undergraduate majors leading to bachelor’s degrees at its Griffin campus for transfer students or those seeking a second degree. The majors offered are agribusiness, biological science, consumer economics, and environmental resource science. In addition, a graduate program in mathematics education for elementary school teachers is being offered in Griffin by UGA’s College of Education. Additional information and an application form for the undergraduate programs is available on the Griffin campus web site, www.uga.edu/griffin. UGA’s Griffin campus, located 40 miles south of Atlanta, was established as the Georgia Experiment Station in 1888. ## |
