Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will host an open house on Nov. 30 for prospective students interested in earning a bachelor’s degree at the university’s Griffin campus.

UGA currently offers bachelor’s degree-completion programs in four areas of study at the Griffin campus, located 40 miles south of Atlanta. The majors available include agribusiness, biological science, consumer economics, and environmental resource science.

At the open house, which is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. in Room 305 of the Flynt Building, prospective students can learn more about the degree programs, tour the facilities, and complete an application for admission for spring semester 2007. Classes begin Jan. 8.

“We really want students in central Georgia to know about what we offer at the Griffin campus,” said Marilyn Johnson, coordinator of academic programs. “The open house is an opportunity to come explore the possibilities.”

The degree programs are intended for transfer students or those seeking a second degree. To be eligible for admission, prospective students need to have earned at least 60 transferable semester credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.50. They would then take junior and senior-level courses at the Griffin campus and earn a UGA degree.

“We’re excited to have added these academic programs at our Griffin campus, which has a rich history of world-class research,” said assistant provost Gerald F. Arkin. “The campus has excellent resources for students and we are in the process of building a new $10 million Student Learning Center to accommodate increasing enrollment.”

Students who earn a UGA degree in Griffin join an extensive network of more than 200,000 UGA alumni residing in Georgia and around the world, Arkin added.

Additional information, including directions to the Griffin campus and an application form for the undergraduate programs, is available online at www.uga.edu/griffin.

Those planning to attend the open house are asked to call 770/412-4400 before Nov. 30.
