Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy is celebrating National Pharmacist Month on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2 – 5 p.m. with DAWGtoberfest: Rx for Good Health.

The event will be an afternoon of health promotion and relaxation on the D.W. Brooks Mall. Sponsored by the Academy of Student Pharmacists, it will include a health fair highlighting different disease states. Visitors can receive free body fat analysis, diabetes assessment, bone density checks and blood pressure checks. There also will be student and faculty booths set up on the mall with free awareness and screening information on asthma, breast cancer, diabetes, fad diets, immunizations, sexually transmitted diseases, women's health, pediatrics and heartburn.

Pharmacy faculty and students will be on hand to answer questions about prescription and nonprescription medications. Additionally, flu shots will be available for $25. Cash, debit cards, and credit cards will be accepted.

DAWGtoberfest is open to university students, faculty, staff and families in the Athens community. Participants may bring a blanket and relax on the lawn while listening to music. Light refreshments will be provided. T-shirts and other prizes will be given out every hour.

The D.W. Brooks Mall is located between the College of Pharmacy and School of Forestry and Natural Resources on the University’s South Campus. Parking is available in the Carlton Street deck and in the South Campus deck.
