Athens, Ga. – The Edward T. and Sarah Laurent Kassinger Scholarship board has awarded the 2007 Kassinger Scholarship to Wesley Huff, a police lieutenant in the University of Georgia Police Department. The scholarship is provided to graduate and undergraduate students who complete academic degrees while employed full-time as a UGA police officer or a working student in the criminal justice studies program at UGA.

Huff, who has been with the UGA Police Department since September 1994, received a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from UGA in June 1994 and a master of education in human resource and organizational development from UGA in August 2007.

Huff and his family currently reside in Crawford. His father, a retired lieutenant from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department, also served with the UGA Police in the late 1960s and worked under Kassinger during his tenure at the police department.

The Kassinger Scholarship was established in 1984 by former employees and friends of the Kassingers who believed that students who work to help pay educational expenses should be recognized.
