University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams gave a budget update to the UGA community during the April 23 meeting of the University Council at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. A video presentation and talking points are available for viewing.

UGA president provides budget update
University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams gave members of University Council an update on UGA’s budget Thursday, Dec. 4 in wake of recent actions by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents to help meet an anticipated directive from state officials to increase the budget cut to 8 percent from the current 6 percent.

Public forum on University Budget
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, President Michael F. Adams and other senior university officials delivered a presentation about the impact of current economic challenges and responded to questions from the audience. Links to archived video of the first budget forum on Sept. 5.

Athens, Ga. – University of Georgia students will participate in Focus the Nation, a national teach-in on global warming solutions, Jan. 30 – 31.

Jan 30
2% Solution web cast at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Hall Ballroom, followed by a free dinner.

Jan 31
Events throughout the day include: lecture by Ecology of a Cracker Childhood author Janisse Ray at 2 p.m. and the Charter Lecture presented by National Geographic executive editor Dennis Dimick at 3:30 p.m. Both lectures will be held in the Mahler Auditorium of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel and admission is free.

The event will conclude with a Power Hour Rally featuring Athens mayor Heidi Davison at 7 p.m. at the 40 Watt (located at 285 W. Washington St. in Athens), followed by performances from locally favorite bands. In addition to support from the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government, local businesses, non-profits and UGA are also supporting the event.

More than 1,000 universities and colleges in all 50 states will participate in Focus the Nation, making it the largest teach-in in U.S. history.
