Athens, Ga. – Wondering how your small or minority-owned business can work with the University of Georgia? UGA is hosting the 2008 Minority and Small Business Expo to offer service and product suppliers a chance to meet and network with UGA departments and purchasing decision-makers.

Scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on March 7 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel, this expo provides a unique opportunity for UGA departments and small and minority businesses.

“This opens up doors not just for minorities, but everyone—owners, entrepreneurs, buyers. It’s been a long time that we’ve been working on this project and we’re very excited about it,” said Sibyl Henderson, chairperson of the minority action committee of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.

Opening with a meet and greet over a continental breakfast, the event allows small and minority-owned businesses to visit with UGA departments and speak with staffers who make purchasing decisions. Other Athens area agencies, such as Athens Clarke County Government and Athens Technical College will also be in attendance.

“This ‘reverse trade show’ is a way for small and minority-owned businesses to connect with the largest university in the state and one of Georgia’s largest government agencies. It’s an opportunity to partner with the community,” said Holley Schramski, associate vice president of finance and administration and controller. “It’s also a really great opportunity for campus departments to expand their knowledge of the available vendor base. It’s very exciting. We’ve never done anything like this before.”

All suppliers are welcome to attend, but small and minority-owned businesses are especially encouraged. Admission is free. Pre-registration is suggested. Online registration is available at www.busfin.uga.edu/procurement. Click on UGA Expo.
