Athens, Ga. – University of Georgia students will celebrate Earth Day April 22 with games, music, food and educational activities focusing on environmental issues.

The “Captain Planet Carnival” will be held on the Tate Student Center Plaza and lawn and on Myers quadrangle behind Myers Hall on South Campus. The Tate Plaza activities will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and events at Myers will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Both locations will have live musical entertainment, free food, interactive games and giveaways. More than a dozen environmental organizations will have booths and tables with information and opportunities to get involved in environmental programs.

Speakers at the Tate Center will include Athens-Clarke County Mayor Heidi Davison, who will discuss joint UGA-ACC sustainability efforts, and Sandra Neuse from the facilities office of the University System of Georgia, who will talk about sustainability programs at colleges and universities in the system.

All events are free and open to the public.

Earth Day sponsors include the Go Green Alliance, Students for Environmental Awareness, the Environmental Health Science Club, the Ecology Club and the environmental sustainability program in UGA’s Physical Plant Division.
