February 7, Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch.com: Big Pets Get Bigger: Latest Survey Shows US Dog and Cat Obesity Epidemic Expanding. Article quotes alumni Dr. Ernie Ward and Dr. Joseph Bartges, as well as Dr. Steve Budsberg, orthopedic surgeon and director of clinical research at the College.
February 3, press release: UGA discovery uses ‘fracture putty’ to repair broken bone in days. "This year, the group showed bone can be generated in sheep in less than four weeks. The speed in which bone is formed is one of the truly unique features of this study."
February 2, press release: Roundworm research reviewed at UGA. Dr. Adrian Wolstenholme, a nematode expert and associate professor in the department of infectious diseases, offers one perspective on new research suggesting genetic changes in the worm cause them to resist conventional drugs.

January 23, UGA.edu: Dr. Jim Moore is featured on UGA.edu's Focus on Faculty feature: Dr. Moore collaborates with researchers from several different colleges on campus to create interactive 3-D teaching materials.
January 23, UGA Alumni Association: The 2012 "Bulldog 100" list features several UGA Veterinary Medicine alums: Drs. Edward and Debbie Pinson (North Oconee Animal Hospital, #22), and Drs. Jenifer Gustafson and Angela Dodd (both of Hope Animal Medical Center, #76).
January 20, The Red & Black: Gov. Deal propose cuts to University System FY12 budget, more money could be seen in FY13. Article mentions the proposed allocation of $52.3 million to build the VMLC, as well as the $15 million in private funds raised for the building.
January 15, Athens Banner-Herald: Deal's budget boosts funding for UGA, new doctors. "Deal’s proposed bond package includes $52 million to build a new veterinary teaching hospital off College Station Road, the University of Georgia’s highest priority."

January 9, The Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette outdoors blog: Anatomy of a deer die-off: Dr. David Stallknecht is quoted in an AP wire article about epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) afflicting white-tail deer in the plains states. The AP article ran in many papers nation-wide.

August 20, Athens Banner-Herald: Parasite a threat to dogs. Parasitologist Dr. Andy Moorhead is quoted in this article about a dog that became ill from giardia shortly after visiting a local park area.
August 10, Light Matters TV show (Photonics.com): Flu Detection (2nd segment). Also read the article, Gold Nanoparticles Detect Flu in Minutes. Ralph Tripp, a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine, helped create a testing mechanism to identify influenza viruses within minutes, and at the point of care.
