High-tech classrooms part of renovation of 1905 building
Meigs Hall--named for Josiah Meigs, the university’s second president and the person who convened the first classes on campus--has been renovated and restored to become the new home of the Institute of Higher Education. (Columns: April 3, 2000)

Meigs Hall renovation adds to beauty of North Campus
Newly renovated Meigs Hall houses the Institute of Higher Education and includes a first-floor classroom that is one of the most technically advanced on campus. Former governor and new faculty member Zell Miller has his office there. (Georgia Magazine: June 2000)

Renovation to historic Moore College will benefit Honors Program
Students participating in the Honors and Foundation Fellows programs will soon enjoy new facilities in a historic campus building. (Columns: August 30, 1999)

Moore College will be rededicated as new home of Honors Program
Moore College was built in 1874 with a $25,000 gift from the city of Athens. It is the only UGA building constructed with money from the city, and the only building erected on campus between the end of the Civil War and the start of the 20th century. (Columns: October 15, 2001)

A facelift of historic proportions
The university’s senior administration moved into new quarters in the restored and renovated administration building in late February, stepping back in time into a structure that looks much as it did when it was built more than 90 years ago. (Columns: March 13, 2000)

UGA's Master Plan
In an ongoing process that has involved thousands of interviews with students, faculty, staff and administrators, guiding principles for campus growth have been shaped and various scenarios envisioned.

UGA has embarked on a $60 million plan to modernize its residence halls and give students something they can't get at off-campus apartments: a sense of community.

It takes a village...
As part of a plan to dramatically expand and improve on-campus housing facilities over the next decade, the University of Georgia Real Estate Foundation is overseeing the construction of four new residence halls on East Campus, in the vicinity of the Ramsey Student Center.

Preserving the future
In 1902, Chancellor Walter Hill took a train load of faculty to Madison, Wis., to get a look at the University of Wisconsin's new ag school. From that trip came the University of Georgia's first master plan. To oversee the project, Hill hired New York landscape architect Charles Leavitt, whose vision for the first half of the 20th century was unveiled in 1905 at a ceremony in the Chapel. Preserving that legacy will be UGA's architectural direction for the first third of the 21st century.
