Feb 15, 2006: Delta Air Lines and the University of Georgia to present the Delta Prize for Global Understanding to Ted Turner
Delta Air Lines and the University of Georgia will present the 2006 Delta Prize for Global Understanding to R. E. (Ted) Turner, founder of Cable News Network, in Atlanta on Tuesday, March 28 at the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta. Turner will be recognized for his creation of CNN and his philanthropic efforts to bring peace and environmental health to our global society.
Mar 2, 2005: Delta Air Lines and UGA present the Delta Prize for Global Understanding to the president of the Pan-African Parliament
Delta Air Lines and the University of Georgia presented the Honorable Ambassador Gertrude Mongella of Tanzania, first president of the Pan-African Parliament of the African Union, with the 2005 Delta Prize for Global Understanding at a banquet on Tuesday, March 1, on the campus of UGA. Mongella was recognized for her lifelong promotion of women’s and children’s rights.

The Honorable Ambassador Gertrude Ibengwe Mongella, the first president of the Pan-African Parliament, will receive the 2005 Delta Prize for Global Understanding at a banquet on March 1 on the campus of the University of Georgia. Ambassador Mongella will be recognized for her lifelong championship of women’s and children’s rights.
June 15, 2004: Delta Air Lines and UGA present the Delta Prize for Global Understanding to first president of the Czech Republic Václav Havel
WASHINGTON, D.C. Delta Air Lines and the University of Georgia will present Václav Havel, first president of the Czech Republic, with the 2004 Delta Prize for Global Understanding during a luncheon today at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, D.C. President Havel is being recognized for his stand against communist political repression during the 1970s and 1980s and for his leadership in the pursuit of peaceful change in Europe.
2/27/2002: Delta Air Lines and The University of Georgia Award the 2002 Delta Prize for Global Understanding to Former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Sadako Ogata - ATLANTA, Feb. 27, 2002 Delta Air Lines and The University of Georgia today announced that Sadako Ogata, former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, has been selected as the 2002 recipient of the Delta Prize for Global Understanding. Ogata was chosen for her longstanding commitment to human rights.

Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, has been chosen as the 2001 recipient of the Delta Prize for Global Understanding...Gorbachev, winner of the 1990 Nobel Peace Prize, will be honored for his efforts to end the arms race and Cold War, and his humanitarian and environmental work in their aftermath.
7/26/2000: ARCHBISHOP TUTU ACCEPTS DELTA PRIZE FOR GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING, CALLS FOR U.S. AID TO SOUTH AFRICA AKIN TO MARSHALL PLAN : ATLANTA--Archbishop Desmond Tutu called on the United States to provide $2 billion in aid to South Africa for the next five years to help his country recover from the legacy of apartheid. Tutu made the plea as he accepted the Delta Prize for Global Understanding, a new international peace prize created by the University of Georgia with an endowment from Delta Air Lines. The 69-year-old former Anglican archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.
5/1/2000: DELTA PRIZE FOR GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING AWARDED TO DESMOND TUTU: ATHENS, Ga. -- Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been chosen as the 2000 recipient of the Delta Prize for Global Understanding. Tutu will be recognized for helping end apartheid in South Africa and promoting reconciliation in its aftermath. "Archbishop Tutu is a living symbol of peaceful change and understanding," said Gary Bertsch, director of UGA's Center for International Trade and Security and co- chair of the Delta Prize program.
4/28/99: PRESIDENT CARTER HONORED FOR WAGING PEACE: Mrs. Carter, Carter Center also share inaugural Delta Prize for Global Understanding: ATHENS, Ga. -- Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn were honored April 27 in Atlanta for their efforts to "wage peace," even as the House of Representatives prepares to vote on the U.S. military role in the Balkan conflict.
2/24/99:NEW DELTA PRIZE FOR GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING AWARDED TO JIMMY AND ROSALYNN CARTER, CARTER CENTER : ATLANTA -- Former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter have been chosen as the recipients of the inaugural Delta Prize for Global Understanding, a new award established by an $890,000 grant from the Delta Air Lines Foundation to the University of Georgia. The announcement was made at a Feb. 24 press conference at Delta corporate headquarters in Atlanta.
