ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COORDINATOR NAMED FOR UGA AT GWINNETT

ATHENS, Ga. — A new coordinator for University of Georgia academic programs offered at the Gwinnett University Center has been named. Cheryl D. Dozier, an associate professor in UGA’s School of Social Work, will serve as assistant vice president in academic affairs for UGA at Gwinnett. She will assume the new position Sept. 3.

Dozier joined the UGA faculty in 1994 and for the past year has been a co-director of the part time master’s in social work program offered by UGA at Gwinnett. She has taught graduate courses in substance abuse, social work practice methods, cultural diversity and supervision in the School of Social Work, and has been an advisor for master’s and doctoral students.

In addition to her administrative and teaching responsibilities, Dozier has conducted substance abuse research with faculty in UGA’s Institute for Behavioral Research and with local and national substance abuse agencies. She also has been involved in international research and study abroad programs in Ghana and Veracruz. She is an affiliated faculty member with UGA’s African Studies Institute and has served as coordinator of the School of Social Work’s annual conference on African-American families.

Dozier has helped develop undergraduate courses for UGA at Gwinnett, including electives to complement the three new undergraduate degree programs being offered this fall by UGA’s College of Education, Terry College of Business and Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

"Cheryl Dozier will do an excellent job handling day-to-day coordination of UGA academic programs offered in Gwinnett and helping develop new programs," said Bob Boehmer, UGA’s associate provost for institutional effectiveness and the person to whom Dozier will report. "Dr. Dozier brings a unique combination of skills to this important role. She is highly accomplished as a teacher, a researcher and an administrator and understands the needs of the Gwinnett University Center and the community."

Dozier holds a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a master’s in social work from Atlanta University’s School of Social Work and a doctoral degree from Hunter College’s School of Social Welfare. She is currently vice president of the National Association of Black Social Workers.
