UGA SPRING COMMENCEMENT TRAFFIC AND INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

Inclement weather information

The following traffic advisory has been issued by the University of Georgia Police Department regarding the spring commencement ceremony for undergraduates to be held in Sanford Stadium at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10:

* Guests enter through the Field Street gates (6 through 9A); graduates enter through gate 10 (under the bridge); guests with special needs enter from East Campus Road through gate 6.

* East Campus Road will be closed to vehicular traffic between Hooper Street and Cedar Street except for those individuals requiring drop off at stadium gate 6. A state handicap parking permit (or other proof of need, such as elderly persons in the vehicle) will be required to access this area. All individuals with special needs are urged to have a driver who can drop them off and move the vehicle. No vehicles will be allowed to park at gate 6.

* All gates on the south side of the stadium will be open. Northside gates will be closed because of construction.

* The bridge on Sanford Drive at the stadium will be closed to all vehicular traffic.

* All attendees are reminded that legal parking is available and that any vehicle parked illegally is subject to being towed and/or ticketed. Nearby parking is available in lots near the intersection of East Campus and Baldwin Streets, in the housing lots on the west side of Lumpkin Street, in the Hull Street lots and in the South Campus Deck adjacent to the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Additional parking is also available further from the stadium.

* Guests and graduates are urged to arrive in a timely manner to avoid last-minute traffic congestion.

* UGA police ask for attendees’ patience regarding the number of people attending commencement, as well as the number of elderly people and people requiring special attention who will be in attendance.


INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

In the event of inclement weather, undergraduate commencement at UGA will move to Stegeman Coliseum and be held in two ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

The first session will include undergraduates from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, College of Environment and Design, School of Social Work and School of Public and International Affairs will participate in the 9:30 a.m. ceremony. The second session will include students in the Terry College of Business, College of Education, Warnell School of Forest Resources, Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and College of Family and Consumer Sciences.

A decision to move will be made by 6:30 a.m. and will be announced on Athens radio stations and posted on the UGA Web sites (www.uga.edu and www.uga.edu/news).
