Monday, June 23, 2003 Statement by President Michael F. Adams regarding the Supreme Court ruling in the Michigan affirmative action cases "The Court told us today two important things: first, race can be one of several factors considered in admission decisions; and second, any system that assigns quantitative points to individuals is unacceptable. This tells me that the decision made by the University of Georgia two years ago to move forward from our previous system to one of more aggressive recruitment and retention was the right one. Our enhanced efforts at recruiting African-American applicants and retaining them as students are paying off, and we will continue to be aggressive in this area." |
